This collection of disused stone farm buildings has been restored by natural conservation methods, and has been converted into a modern design family home. The buildings have been connected by a series of modern injections including a glazed corridor, exposed galvanised steel and a cantilevered porch. Natural Iroko timber has been used in the new doors, windows and external cladding to bring warmth to the exposed location. The traditional forms have been retained but the new zinc roof mimics that of an agricultural building with the curved ridge helping to soften the angular rural forms. The conservation of traditional vernacular buildings is extremely important and all in all the renovation was a great success.
