What might at first glance appear to be a chic, spacious, and sophisticated apartment will take you by surprise if you decide to delve deeper. The design was created by OneByNine, and architecture firm jointly based in Hong Kong and Poland. As for the chic, the apartment is modern and sleek in design. It includes a luxurious outdoor patio and harbours a great view.

So what’s this secret that lies beyond the apparently glamorous? For one, the home is actually merely 35 sqm in size though its clever open plan might fool you. It doesn't end there. The home uniquely manages to pull off the sophisticated and the playful simultaneously. In almost every room in this apartment the designers include images from the iconic game Space Invaders! Sound interesting? Well, come with us on a tour of this fun and flashy abode.

Designed with space in mind

The apartment was remodelled by OneByNine to make better use of the constrained space. Space has certainly been maximised to the fullest potential in the improved layout in this narrow apartment. The sofa, coffee table, and adjacent chair fit in the room like a glove. An open plan replaced the old layout, which consisted of several small rooms. A newly constructed translucent black wall serves as the barrier between the living space and a larger bedroom.

The new design allows for a better flow of air and energy in the apartment, unleashing many new design possibilities to explore.

Style and comfort in a maximised space

How nice does this spot look for lounging after a long day working and shopping in the city? We’d love to curl up on a sofa with that magazine and glass of wine. The furniture is modern and stylish while also exuding a sense of comfort and effortlessness that makes it feel liveable. The built-in shelving behind adds dimension to the home and expertly maximises the space in this apartment. As we can see it’s a perfect spot to add a little decoration.

Casting light and shaddows

Look how nicely the blue hues of dusk match the interior sofa. What attention to detail employed here. We love the way the table casts light and shadows through the slits in the table. It really makes an added statement. The open plan allows for a dining nook in addition to the living room area. The black and white décor and light bring just the right amount of personality to the stylish room.

The invasion!

Now for the space invaders. This angular bathroom evokes the same sense of graphic simplicity as the game from the late 70s, which invites them into the setting more naturally. The tiny white tiles are the same size at the black ones that make up the game images, which creates an enveloping pixelated effect. This bathroom is modern and minimalist, which also features a white marble washbasin.

Terrace entertainment

Heading outside to the last stop on the tour we are met with this view of the spacious patio. The cubic black planters and table reflect light that creates extra illumination in the space. The mingling of the lights and plants displays another statement with shadows. Though the apartment might be small the corner sofa outdoors makes for an excellent place to entertain guests and make food on the grill. The outdoor patio also features discrete images from Space Invaders. You can spot even more just inside as well.
