Located amidst lush vegetation, this holiday home in Tamandaré, the capital of Brazil's Pernambuco province, is a strong expression of tropical living. Situated by the ocean, Tamandaré is a top destination for city vacationers, in no small part due to its impressive beaches.

The house we will be looking at today has been designed as a holiday retreat for a large family; there is an abundance of bedrooms and lots of common space where the family can congregate to enjoy their time together. With its spacious garden, numerous terraces, a huge swimming pool, and a far from minimal interior, this holiday abode is very inviting.  Let's take a closer look, inside and out, and dream of an ocean getaway…

The exterior

Characteristic of the traditional beach house architecture in the surrounding area, the home dons a light-colored facade and red roof tiles.  The interior spills out onto an array of covered terraces and the impressive pool. As one should expect, outdoor living has been prioritised. It is given the same consideration – if not more – as the interior spaces of the home.

Between inside and out

Zooming in on the front verandah area, we can appreciate the nuanced qualities and atmospheres in the various nooks and spaces. The large timber doors connect the interior to this threshold space that assumes a dual indoor-outdoor feel. The outdoor furniture is abundant. From hammocks to cane furniture, couches to timber dining spaces – there's certainly no shortage of somewhere to sit and enjoy the long summer afternoons.

The dining room

The large dining table offers space for ten people in the dining room – perfect for entertaining! Rendered in marble, the table grand and weighty, a permanent fixture anchored in the space. Playing on the fact it is a beach house, the back wall is covered with sailing boat wallpaper! The interior certainly doesn't shy away from applied detail, adornment, and a 'more is more' approach. It's no minimalist dream home, but if quirky kitsch is your thing, you're sure to love it.

Bedroom 1

This bedroom, with two in-built timber beds, features a butterfly wallpaper in vibrant pink and purple hues. That's not the only bold splash of colour, either: the bed pillows are covered in different patterned materials. As we said, more appears to be more in this designers canon.

Bedroom 2

Before we conclude the tour, let's take a quick look at one more bedroom. Like the one before it, this space of repose isn't afraid of colour and pattern. The wallpaper, the cushions – they're bold, they're bright, and they're decorative. A clear deviation from the minimalist style du jour, undifferentiated spaces are nowhere to be found, instead, each room has its very own distinct flair.
