Metropolitan life undoubtedly has its advantages, and many, if not most of us reside in cities. As a result, we frequently tour city apartments or suburban dwellings here at homify.

Today will be a little different, as we take a trip to the Japanese countryside to tour a family home designed to for country life. Brought to us by Toki Architects, the home’s design has been rooted in the natural environment, designed around a family and built to make use of the location. Let’s take a look…

Setting the scene

With a backdrop of forest covered mountains and open fields in front, the countryside location is quite stunning. Aside from the beauty of the surroundings, the location offers another advantage – space.

The façade

This striking one storey home is constructed of three buildings of different heights, arranged in a creative pattern of geometric shapes.

Here we can see how the architects capitalised on the extensive amount of available space, as the sizable property includes sheltered parking in front, as well as a large front lawn.

Dining with a view

Stepping inside we find ourselves facing the dining area. The simple, spacious interior merges with the scenery outside, thanks to the glass patio doors that incorporate the scenery into the décor.

Plenty of living room

Moving on we come to a vast open-plan living space. This modern, minimalist living room was designed to be the centre of the home.

The spacious room benefits from the high ceilings the home’s unusual shape provides, while the large window above the television in conjunction with the patio doors make the space feel more open and allow plenty of natural light to fill the room. The result is to create a bright, open space – a comfortable area to relax or socialise.

Large and yet still cosy

The log burning stove warms the room, both literally and figuratively, as it brings a cosy element to the modern design.

The house has been designed so that the outdoors can be accessed from any part of the home, as can be seen from the presence of yet more patio doors behind the sofa.

A concise kitchen corner

Although fairly small, the kitchen is designed so that the cook has easy access to all the kitchen’s amenities and storage, thanks to the U-shape design of the counter. The kitchen is also fantastically bright owing to the fact that windows cover the majority of wall space.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our tour of this endearing country abode. If so, you’ll love this Scandinavian style, Japanese home.
